What is Reflexology?

A reflexology practitioner manipulates the feet. Different parts of the body can be treated by manipulating different parts of the foot. With over 7,000 nerve endings, the foot is suited to this sensitive manipulation. In reflexology, points and areas of the feet, hands and ears correspond to specific organs, bones, and body systems throughout the body.

To represent these body systems, a reflexologist uses a “map.” A good example is a reflexology map of the feet.

• The Left foot affects the left side of the body, which includes all organs and systems found on the left side of the body.
• The Right foot affects the right side of the body, which includes all organs and systems found on the right side of the body.

A reflexologist attempts to reduce and release congestion or stress in the nervous system and balance the body’s energy.
